Summer Vacations
Since we live in a tourist area, our office takes care of vacationers all year long. Most of the time the story goes like this: "I see a chiropractor back home but I was just so busy in the months leading up to my vacation that I didn't get to see him. Besides, I was feeling fine until I grabbed that suitcase from the overhead." I explain that it wasn't that activity that caused the flare-up, it was the misalignment that was already there that allowed a normal activity to become a big problem. Luckily, being trapped in a lounge chair on the beach as your back heals isn't the worst vacation, especially if you have drink service.
Unless your upcoming summer trip could benefit from your incapacity, I hope you'll come and see us well before you leave – even if you're feeling good. Remember, a spinal misalignment doesn't immediately cause pain, it's more like a loose wheel - something you might not even be aware of until your car is in the ditch. When you start planning for that vacation remember that it will be more enjoyable if you're able to leave the hotel room - call us and get in good alignment before you go.
Why Kids Should See a Chiropractor
Newborn to 5 years old
This is an important time in the growth and development of the child's spine and nervous system. In the first few months before babies begin to crawl, their primary curves are developing. Later, as the baby begins to actually crawl, their secondary curves develop. These are the curves of the neck and lower back. This process is important as these curves become the shock absorbing system of the body. If these curves are unable to develop properly, due to spinal misalignment or postural problems, it can lead to scoliosis or other conditions.
Children 5-17
During the summer, kids have more free time to swim, bike, and jump on the trampoline. This increase in activity seems to lead to an increase in injuries. The trampoline causes approximately 88,000 visits per year to the ER; while each car accidents and playground equipment account for another 200,000. Save a trip to the hospital and let us check them out. We have the equipment to diagnosis and treat most all musculoskeletal injuries. Before you know it, summer will wind down and it will be time for back to school. That means sports are going to be in full swing. Being an ex-Buckeye football player I definitely know the importance of preventative chiropractic care to deter injury and the importance of seeing a chiropractor after an injury occurs. I am now performing complete school and sports physicals for only $30 – a much more convenient choice than trying to get an appointment with the a primary physician. Let's get the kids out there, keep them safe, injury free, and let them have fun.
After The Trauma (a paragraph to our accident patients)
I would be the first to agree that it is a pain in the rear – and I'm not talking about sciatica. As most of you know, I went through the whole process myself, three times per week - adjustments, massage and exercise - for five months. To make matters worse, the summer can be the most difficult time to follow the rigors of a post-accident treatment plan. "I'm not just the president of The Hair Club for Men, I'm also a member." Although that may be applicable to me as well, I offer that statement as a proof of my empathy. I know how time consuming and difficult it can be to fit this accident treatment plan into your schedule, but I also know how important it is to your future well being. Either you take the time now, during this window of opportunity (1-6 months following the trauma), or your injuries slip irretrievably into the realm of the "chronic", producing discomfort and requiring treatment for the rest of your lives. Think about it and vow to take care of these injuries now, no matter how inconvenient it might be in your summer schedule. Until we have perfected the time machine this is the only way to prevent the arthritic and chronic problems that will bother you from here on out.
Revisit The Web
I also want to remind everyone that on our website we have an extensive list of health conditions and information as to how chiropractic care may help. Let's say, for example, that you've been having trouble sleeping or those anxiety attacks have been more frequent. You have never mentioned these to me because you didn't think chiropractic could possible apply. Go to the website and see how chiropractic could help – how misalignments in the spine can be a causative factor in a number of seemingly unrelated conditions. Over 30 conditions are listed and have been personally researched and commented on – many that may benefit from chiropractic care with an explanation as to how an adjustment might help. If there's something you're concerned about and it's not on the list, let me know and I'll research it.
